Chapter 5
1. In this chapter David's character is described more fully. He is now at a crucial stage of boy-man, having characteristics of both stages. Provide some examples of David's behaviour that shows each stage.
2. Describe the Inspector. Who is the greater threat to David, the Inspector or Joseph Strorm? Explain.
3. On p.46, Miss Wender says 'Oh Johnyy, dear...' What does she mean? What does it say about the position of women in the socirty? Explain.
4. Why do the Wendles leave? What does David ask them? Why?
